She was Chi-Chi's tutor, teaching her how to be a good wife.Grandma Hakkake is a lonely woman who lives peacefully in her small hut. One day, she accidentally finds the Bansho Fan and uses it as a dustpan, unaware of its powers.

Some time later, Chi-Chi and Son Goku arrive at her house to obtain the Bansho Fan and put out the fire on Mount Frypan. The old woman hands it over without any problems and, after giving Chi-Chi instructions on how to be a good wife, prepares to say goodbye. Before the travelers left, Grandma Hakkake also gave her apprentice a jar of honey from her beehives, which would later be used to plug a hole at the bottom of the Eight-Division Furnace.Grandma Hakkake appears for the first and only time in Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans.
