DESCRIPTION

This digital 3D model accurately recreates the famous Siloam Inscription, an ancient Hebrew text carved into the wall of the Siloam Tunnel in Jerusalem. The inscription, dating from the late 8th century BCE (reign of King Hezekiah), commemorates the completion of an engineering marvel: the excavation of the tunnel connecting the Gihon Spring to the Pool of Siloam, vital for the city’s water supply and survival. the original limestone tablet measuring approximately 62 cm × 21 cm × 15 cm The inscription is rendered in paleo-Hebrew, featuring six lines of script describing the moment when two teams of tunnelers met inside the rock. Its detailed reproduction includes the subtle surface textures, chisel marks, and precise character shapes as preserved in the original limestone.Biblical reference: 2Kings 20:20; 2Chronicles 32:30 The inscription reads, in part: “And this was the way in which it was cut through:—While [. . .] (were) still [. . .] axe(s), each man toward his fellow, and while there were still three cubits to be cut through, [there was heard] the voice of a man calling to his fellow, for there was an overlap in the rock on the right [and on the left]. And when the tunnel was driven through, the quarrymen hewed (the rock), each man toward his fellow, axe against axe; and the water flowed from the spring toward the reservoir for 1,200 cubits, and the height of the rock above the head(s) of the quarrymen was 100 cubits.” (Ancient Near Eastern Texts, edited by J. B. Pritchard, 1974, p. 321) Technical features:
