Samus Aran (サムス・アラン Samusu Aran?) is an intergalactic bounty hunter and the main protagonist of the Metroid series. The daughter of Rodney Aran and Virginia Aran, she lost her parents during a Space Pirate raid on her home of K-2L. Later, Samus was adopted by the mysterious Chozo and taken to Zebes, where she was infused with their DNA and raised to become a warrior. Once she reached adulthood, Samus joined the Federation Police and served under the Commanding Officer Adam Malkovich. Though she ultimately left to become a Bounty Hunter, she was nonetheless hired by the Galactic Federation on many occasions. Equipped with her cybernetic Power Suit, Samus has become famous for accomplishing missions previously thought impossible. Her most renowned achievements are the destruction of the Space Pirate base on Zebes, her role in ending the Galactic Phazon crisis, her repeated extermination of the Metroid species, and her disobedience of orders at the Biologic Space Laboratories research station where she chose to destroy the deadly X Parasites rather than turn them over to the Galactic Federation. Having received an infusion of Metroid DNA to save her from an X infection, Samus is now the last Metroid in the galaxy. Samus Aran's Power Suit (パワースーツ Pawā Sūtsu), also known as the Normal Suit (ノーマルスーツ Nōmaru Sūtsu), is a suit of powered armor designed by the Chozo. This term applies to both Samus' Chozo Battle Suit Ver SA1-4468-VM6-P in its basic form without any upgrades, and her suit as a whole regardless of its current upgrade level. The word Power Suit is short for powered armorsuit. A Chozo known as Dryn was apparently instrumental in the development of the technology. In the Metroid manga, Mother Brain claimed to be the creator of Samus' original Power Suit. Two specific models are well-known: the first was a suit given to Samus in her teenage years by the Chozo who raised her (seen in Metroid: Zero Mission). After being attacked by Space Pirates, Samus lost the ability to summon her suit, and was briefly forced to proceed in her Zero Suit. After completing the Ruins Test, her fighting spirit was restored and she received another Power Suit. This second suit of armor was of ancient design, based on its depiction in Chozo prophetic murals and its compatibility with older Chozo-produced upgrades such as the Space Jump, Plasma Beam, and Gravity Suit.
