The Astrolabe is designed to navigate difficult southern and arctic seas and operate in pack ice with an ICE BREAKER 57 rating, i.e. in 1.2m thick first-year ice in summer and 1 m in winter. 72 m long, it is commissioned by around twenty sailors and can support the activity of sixty people for missions lasting 35 days at 12 knots and transporting 1,200 tonnes of freight. It is equipped with a helicopter platform, a 35-ton crane and a rear gantry. It is equipped with four Wärtsilä 20 engines, fitted with NOx emission treatment systems, which deliver their power through shaft lines with two stainless steel variable-pitch propellers, as well as a tunnel thruster.It is a ship of the French National Navy.More details can be find on Internet.
