The Type 337 had its origins in sweeping directives laid down by the Interstellar Commerce Commission designed to standardize all starship escape systems in response to recurring problems in starship emergency evacuations.Unfamiliarity with varying escape equipment, procedures and protocols often resulted in preventable loss of personnel. The Type 337 is the fruit of these standardization efforts and is the standard escape vehicle employed aboard most USCM spacecraft. Most notably, EEV Unit 2650 was ejected from the USS Sulaco in 2179 following an on-board fire that lead to and explosion which ultimately damaged the EEV unit while in flight, causing it to crash land on Fiorina 161.
