DESCRIPTION

The future for humanity is space. At some point humans will colonize space and build both industry and living spaces between the stars. When it comes to living space, humanity is likely to stay true to its roots and will create structures with artificial (centrifugal) gravity and with space for landscapes and cities. This model represents one of these structures. This space construction is a country sized space habitat ring with a size of that between a bishop ring and a banks orbital. It can also be considered a real life and slightly smaller version of the Halo array from the sci-fi game Halo combat evolved. Thanks to the HD textures and the low poly construction, this model can be used both as a faraway background model, as well as a model for close up use.

Lore and science behind the space habitatThis space station/space habitat is a ring shaped construction of approximately 5 km in diameter. By rotating it creates centrifugal force capable of simulating gravity. This simulated gravity feels so real that this station does not even needs to be fully enclosed to hold its atmosphere. As long as the rims are high enough, this ring will hold on to its atmosphere just like a planet would. The size of this station would provide an extremely large amount of living area for future humans. Just the surface alone could house at least a billion people. on top of that, the rims that hold the atmosphere double as living area as well, allowing for apartments with a perfect high-rise type of view over the surface of the ring world. In order to create a construction of this grandeur would take a lot of construction work and can be considered unreachable in this century or even the one after this. Even so, even with current level of technology a construction like this is possible to be build. Even although a construction like this would be under a lot of stress from its rotation, by using a combination of our strongest materials and forms of active support, a ring like this can be build without needing any form of sci-fi explanation or new technologies. So one could say that it is only a matter of time until humanity will build one of these.

Technical 3d model information

  • Render ready for both Eevee and cycles
  • Subdivision ready
  • Low Poly
  • Usable for real time render
  • Quads only for optimal performance
  • Contains multiple HD textures (4000 x 4000)
  • HDRI background image included (8000 x 4000)
  • All textures are unique originals
  • Contains albedo, metallic, emission, roughness and displacement maps

In real life, this construction would have a diameter of around 5.000 km in diameter. Some 3d programs do not display objects of this size very well. In order to avoid complications, and because most users want to decide the exact diameter themselves, the model itself is not scaled to the real life size. The air in this model is build up out of two layers, the clouds and the atmosphere. The atmosphere is made using the facing layer weight node in Blender to create a realistic increase in blue density depending on angle.Because the node system is different in each 3d program, the atmosphere layer might be solid instead of transparent. this means you might need to recreate this effect by using the native node system in your program of choice, or delete this layer.

Unsupported objects:
- Lights

Geometry
No N-gons
N-gons are polygons with five or more sides which might cause issues in certain processes like rendering or animation. Learn more
No faceted geometry
Faceted geometry uses flat surfaces without smoothing, which can look unrealistic on curves.
Learn more
Manifold geometry
Manifold geometry ensures all surfaces are properly connected, avoiding issues like edges shared by more than two faces.

Textures & material
PBR textures
PBR textures simulate how light interacts with materials, making the model look realistic under different lighting.
Required PBR textures:
- Base Color
- Roughness
- Metalness
- Normal

No embed textures
Embedded textures are stored inside the model file, increasing its size and sometimes causing compatibility issues.
Learn more
Square textures
Texture aspect ratio is the width-to-height ratio of a texture. Expected texture aspect ratio: 1:1
Learn more
Power of 2 texture sizes
Textures with dimensions in power of two (e.g. 512x512px, 1024x1024px) are used to optimize performance and memory usage.

Assigned materials
Materials are applied to the 3D model to allow visualize a model's surface properties and appearance.

UVs & naming
No UV overlaps
UVs overlap when multiple points on the 3D model's surface are mapped to the same point on the UV island causing texture stretching.
Learn more
UV unwrapped model
A UV unwrapped model means its 3D surface is flattened into 2D space, allowing textures to be applied accurately.
