Muqarnas: An Architectural Marvel of Islamic Art
Muqarnas, also known as muqarnas or stalactite vaulting, is an ornamental feature in Islamic architecture. It consists of a three-dimensional, geometric composition of niches, squinches, or corbels, often used in domes, vaults, and entrances. Muqarnas create a visually stunning effect, resembling a honeycomb or stalactites hanging from a cave ceiling.
This is a 3D scan of a muqarnas found in a historical mosque. This was done to transfer the original architectural details and texture of the muqarnas to digital media. Since the scanning method was used, not modeling, an exact copy of the muqarnas was obtained. This data can be used in restoration projects, academic studies or to examine the mosque in a virtual environment.
