Cuvier Fountain 3D model

Created in 1840 by the architect Alphonse Vigoureux, water inspector for the city of Paris, this fountain, which replaces the old Saint-Victor fountain, pays homage to Georges Cuvier. The statue, an allegory of natural history sculpted by Jean-Jacques Feuchère, represents a young woman carrying tablets on which is inscribed Cuvier's motto: Rerum cognoscere causas (from a verse by Virgil), accompanied by a lion and marine and amphibious animals. 75005 ParisThe frieze, the tympanum, the intercolumnation are by Pierre-Jules Pomateau, ornamental sculptorIt was listed as a historic monument by a decree of April 3, 1984.
