DESCRIPTION

This is a model of the British Tallboy bomb, used for various operations during the Second World War, but primarily designed as an earthquake bomb (DP in the name denotes deep penetration). One of the most notable operations it was involved in was the destruction of the battleship Tirpitz. Dropped from about 18,000 feet, this bomb could surpass speeds of 1,000 feet per second, and with the stabilisation fins, would be rotating at 300 rpm. The amount explosive used is 5,200 pounds of Torpex.

The plugin used is Armory 3D to generate the images you see. Information in the description can be found in British Explosive Ordnance, published by Navy Department Bureau of Ordnance on June 10, 1946
