This modernist collection, despite its modernist roots and references, is characterized by an ambitious attempt to integrate the figurative element representing the work of Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien into the linear rationality of a rectangular geometric form. The result, from a formal innovative point of view, is an achievement. The two designers juxtapose a classic composition, from meticulous attention to surface and material execution to highlighting a few salient features: the central button negates and simultaneously remakes Capitonné upholstery bourgeois charm, while the base, revisited through color choice and the use of steel, softens the industrial aesthetic. With Casa Modernista – a subtle homage to Grigory Varchavchik, the Russian-Ukrainian architect responsible for promoting modern architecture in 1920s Brazil – the formal precision and objective sobriety of previous models softens, opening itself up to relaxation and spontaneity.

Cushions lose firmness, seats become deeper and more welcoming, lines soften. The sofa, thanks to this change, becomes a space where opposite interpretations of time take place: productive and disparate, social and personal, temporary and continuous. Casa Modernista completes the project with several sofas with adjustable dimensions and comfort. It is believed that sofas are used in a home environment, but still retain the main details of the concept.

Stress-resistant polyurethane foam of various densities and polyester fiber on a wooden frame. Internal construction steel and elastic webbing. The base/legs are laser cut and powder coated bent sheet steel. The pillows are polyester foam, polyester fiber and memory foam chips. The covers of the Casa Modernista 1 collection are removable, except for the leather versions.
