DESCRIPTION

Lowpoly PBR realistic 3D model of a vintage kitchen scale, suitable for renders, games and real time applications.

Characteristics:

  • Generic, not intended to look like any specific real world scale brand (copyright safe).
  • Five colors available: black, blue, green, yellow and red.
  • Two PBR color sets: old (worn) and new.
  • Simple geometry, some details are done with texturing.
  • Compatible with subdivision (mesh smoothing) without changing its original format.
  • Indicator, plate and plate support are separated parts (objects), so you can display any weight you want.
  • Entirely UV-mapped (unwrapped, non-overlapping UVs).
  • Objects and materials are descriptively and uniquely named.
  • Originally created with Maya LT, textured with Substance Painter.

Included formats:

  • Unreal Engine (uasset), compatible with versions from 4.24 and newer, including 5.
  • Blender 3.3.1.
  • MilkShape 1.8.4.
  • Marmoset Toolbag 3.07 Scene Bundle.
  • Fbx, obj and dae (Collada) - Require adding the textures manually after you import them in your 3D editor.

Unreal Engine format specifics:

  • Overview map included, with many examples of different settings.
  • Included one example blueprint (single-player) that shows in its construction script how to make the model funcional, with height, aging and color settings.
  • Included material allows you to change the model age by adjusting a simple scalar parameter (see preview video).
  • The glass material uses dithered opacity. This is faster than translucency, but on Unreal 5 this requires setting the anti-aliasing method to Temporal Anti-Aliasing(TAA), on Engine / Rendering, in Project Settings, to appear correctly. This is already default on Unreal 4.
  • No third-party plugins needed.

Geometry:

  • Model consists of 8 parts: KitchenScale, Scale, Indicator, Glass, Screw1, Screw2, PlateSupport and Plate.
  • Sealed geometry (no open edges).
  • No ngons (tris and quads only).
  • No coincident (overlapping) vertices.
  • Has poles (vertices connected to more than 5 edges).
  • Total poly count is 4154 (4046 quads and 108 tris) and 4116 vertices.
  • Compatible with subdivision (mesh smoothing) without changing its original format.
  • Unreal format (uasset) triangulates all faces.

Materials and textures:

  • Two materials: MatScale and MatGlass.
  • All textures are png, 4096 x 4096 pixels (4K textures).
  • All textures have old (worn) and new versions.
  • Blender, Marmoset and MilkShape formats use relative texture paths.
  • PBR textures sets: color (no alpha channel), directx normal map, openGL normal map, height, metalness, ambient occlusion, roughness and ORM (composite ambient occlusion (R) + roughness (G) + metalness (B)).
  • Extra PBR color textures: black, blue, green, yellow and red (both old and new versions).
  • Exchange formats (obj, fbx, dae): no embeded textures, so you can import them from the PBR set, in accordance to the requirements of the 3D editor you use.

Preview images:

  • Preview images are rendered in Marmoset 3, unless otherwise informed.
  • Preview images depict the actual model, no retouching.
  • Preview Blender images are rendered with Cycles (not tested with Eevee).
  • HDRI used in Blender previews is CC0 from Poly Haven (formerly HDRI Haven) and is included.
  • HDRIs used in Marmoset previews are part of Marmoset software.

Units and measurement:

  • Real world scale.
  • Unit system is metric (centimeters).
  • Full model dimensions: 24.0 cm (width) x 27.4 cm (height) x 23.5 cm (deep).

Additional notes:

  • Fbx and obj formats were exported by Maya LT. Collada (dae) format was exported by Blender.
  • The obj format does not preserve the hierarchy or the pivots locations of the different objects. If you import this format, you may need to redo what it lacks.
  • For your convenience, on Blender format the Subdivision Surface modifier is applied to the Scale part of the model (you can remove it, if you want).
  • Included glass textures are optimized for Blender (Cycles) and may need some tweaking to look good in other renders, as each software and render offers different ways of getting the best results for translucency.

FBX
This FBX file has successfully passed the CGT Standard technical and visual checks. The verification results are detailed in the section below.
File & scene
Binary FBX
Binary FBX file is more compact and faster to load and process.

No unsupported objects
Unsupported objects:
- Lights
- Cameras
Learn more
Geometry
No N-gons
N-gons are polygons with five or more sides which might cause issues in certain processes like rendering or animation. Learn more
No faceted geometry
Faceted geometry uses flat surfaces without smoothing, which can look unrealistic on curves.
Learn more
Manifold geometry
Manifold geometry ensures all surfaces are properly connected, avoiding issues like edges shared by more than two faces.

Textures & material
PBR textures
PBR textures simulate how light interacts with materials, making the model look realistic under different lighting.
Required PBR textures:
- Base Color
- Roughness
- Metalness
- Normal
Learn more
No embed textures
Embedded textures are stored inside the model file, increasing its size and sometimes causing compatibility issues.
Learn more
Square textures
Texture aspect ratio is the width-to-height ratio of a texture. Expected texture aspect ratio: 1:1
Learn more
Power of 2 texture sizes
Textures with dimensions in power of two (e.g. 512x512px, 1024x1024px) are used to optimize performance and memory usage.
Learn more
Assigned materials
Materials are applied to the 3D model to allow visualize a model's surface properties and appearance.
Learn more
UVs & naming
No UV overlaps
UVs overlap when multiple points on the 3D model's surface are mapped to the same point on the UV island causing texture stretching.
Learn more
UV unwrapped model
A UV unwrapped model means its 3D surface is flattened into 2D space, allowing textures to be applied accurately.
