The story of Sonora is the story of a pure geometric shape, a hemisphere, which Magistretti has pursued as an obsession for nearly thirty years and is available in many materials and sizes. Created in 1976 using turned aluminum, it was already 100 cm in size. In 1990 it was offered in etched blown glass and in 2003 in methacrylate. Three years later, the last version was 133 cm in size, which was a demonstration of exceptional technology. Sonora, clumsily copied all over the world, is by far one of the most popular lamps designed by Magistretti, who realized their ability to illuminate and especially characterize the entire environment: a kind of volume that is contained in another volume, which is a room.
