  • An omnidirectional treadmill is a mechanical device, similar to a typical treadmill, that allows a person to perform locomotive motion in any direction, allowing for 360 degrees of movement.
  • The ability to move in any direction is how these treadmills differ from their basic counterparts.
  • Virtual reality can not only improve gait, but also cognitive abilities.
  • By focusing on certain tasks and obstacles, patients are training the brain as well.
  • VR treadmill gait rehabilitation also works on motor planning, spatial awareness, decision making, memory, motivation, self-awareness and multi-tasking.
  • It uses inertial sensors to track a person's position, the length of their stride, and how fast they are moving.
  • The information is then sent to a computer which translates the data into the game movements.
  • The current Omni Harness design keeps the player stable in the Ring, without needing leg straps.
