Okiku is a character based on a Japanese folk legend. A young man had given his sister a doll as a gift. She liked the gift so much that she never left the doll. Unfortunately, the girl died prematurely, and according to Japanese customs, her belongings were to be burned with her body. But, the doll was not burned, and with that Okiko's spirit was trapped in the doll, making it haunted.
