Alexander Mikhailovich Ovechkin (Russian: Алексaндр Михайлович Овечкин, born 17 September 1985) is a Russian professional ice hockey left winger and captain of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL). Nicknamed “the Great 8” (in reference to his jersey number) and “Ovi”, Ovechkin has scored the most career goals in NHL regular season history, and he is widely regarded as one of the greatest ice hockey players of all time.
