Design Narrative – Historic Home Expansion and Barn Construction
This project explores a sensitive architectural expansion of a historic residential home, paired with the construction of a complementary barn structure. The design approach prioritizes respect for the original building’s character, scale, and material language, while introducing contemporary functionality through a clearly articulated yet harmonious addition. The expansion is carefully positioned to preserve key views, existing circulation patterns, and the historical integrity of the primary structure.
The new extension adopts a restrained architectural expression, drawing proportions, roof geometry, and façade rhythm from the historic home, while subtly differentiating itself through simplified detailing and modern construction methods. Interior spaces are designed to improve spatial flow, natural daylight access, and functional zoning, supporting modern living requirements without compromising the heritage value of the property.
The barn is conceived as a secondary structure that reinforces the rural and historical context of the site. Its form, roof pitch, and material palette are inspired by traditional agricultural buildings, reinterpreted with contemporary standards for durability and efficiency. Together, the historic home, expansion, and barn form a cohesive architectural ensemble that balances preservation with modern use. The Revit 2026 model is developed with clear organization, accurate geometry, and clean BIM standards, making it suitable for visualization, documentation, and further design development.
