History:The Boulevard Lamp is the quintessential American gas street lamp. Patented in 1899, the design was a transition from square-sided to round globe lamps. An impressive 42 inches tall (lamp) or 6-9 feet tall (whole), the Boulevard recalls the grandeur of the Victorian era but with the strength and simplicity of American character (This info is from AmericanGaslamp.com).Long Beach Island is known in NJ as one of the last places to use these antique gas lamp street lights. They are generally green since they have been repainted.
