Name: Kileskus ‭(‬Lizard in Khakas language‭)‬.Phonetic: Ky-les-kuss.Named By: Averianov,‭ ‬Krasnolutskii‭ & ‬Ivantsov‭ ‬-‭ ‬2010.Classification: Chordata,‭ ‬Reptilia,‭ ‬Dinosauria,‭ ‬Saurischia,‭ ‬Theropoda,‭ Proceratosauridae, ‬Tyrannosauroidea.Species: K.‭ ‬aristotocus‭ (‬type‭)‬.Diet: Carnivore.Size: Uncertain due to incomplete fossil material.Known locations: Russia,‭ ‬Krasnoyarsk Krai.Time period: Bathonian of the JurassicFossil representation: Partial skull including the maxilla and premaxilla as well as foot and hand bones.

Dating from the Bathonian period,‭ ‬Kileskus is even older than Guanlong making it a contender for one of the earliest tyrannosaurs.‭ ‬The partial skull remains have revealed the presence of a crest that rose up from the snout.‭ ‬Beyond this the only thing that can be said about Kileskus is that‭ ‬it‭ ‬appears to belong in a basal position of the Proceratosauridae,‭ ‬the group thought to belong alongside the earliest tyrannosaurs.

Kileskus has been included in two phylogenetic analyses and found to be a basal proceratosaurid both times.

Although it is unknown whether Kileskus sported a nasal crest, it can be assigned to Proceratosauridae due to a number of other features. These include elongated external nares, a short ventral margin of the premaxilla, and the area of the antorbital fossa directly below the antorbital fenestra being deeper than the maxilla directly below it. Kileskus also shares with Proceratosaurus nares inclined posterodorsally at a 40 degree angle to the skull. Kileskus is distinguished from other proceratosaurids by the anterior rim of its maxilla being confluent with the ascending process of the maxilla and gently sloping posterodorsally.
