DESCRIPTION

Acrocanthosaurus was a formidable theropod dinosaur that lived during the Early Cretaceous period, approximately 113 to 110 million years ago. Known for its impressive size and distinct features, this carnivorous dinosaur could reach lengths of up to 40 feet and weigh around 6 tons. One of the most striking characteristics of Acrocanthosaurus was the series of tall neural spines on its vertebrae, creating a pronounced ridge along its back and neck, which may have supported a muscular hump or sail. With a powerful jaw filled with sharp teeth, strong hind limbs, and clawed hands, Acrocanthosaurus was a top predator in its ecosystem, preying on large herbivorous dinosaurs. Its fossils have been predominantly found in North America, providing significant insights into the diversity and adaptability of large theropods during the Cretaceous.
