DESCRIPTION

The OV-1D Mohawk was an armed observation aircraft developed and built by Grumman for the US Army. It was a twin turboprop high wing configuration designed to observe battle fields and enemy positions and have a light strike capability. It carried two crew members in a side by side cockpit arrangement with a bubble canopy that allowed the crew to look “over the side” of the aircraft affording an excellent field of view.

It was intended to operate from short and sometimes rough unimproved landing fields. It was designed to replace and out perform the Cessna L-19 Bird Dog, and was originally a joint Army and Navy project to develop the aircraft for the Army and Marine Corps.

Design development led to a first flight in 1959 and from 1959 through 1969 380 Mohawks were produced. Varients included a FLIR version, a SLAR version, armed version and a version capable of dropping pods of emergency supplies to troops in need. The Mohawk was fast and did the job of observation, close air support, artillery spotter, photo recon, and others. It was however cancelled in 1970 after serving with distinction in Vietnam.

This model is built near to scale, and fully textured. It includes animated features, ailerons, flaps, propellers, elevator, and rudder. The canopy can be opened. Landing gear and doors can be retracted. The model is provided here in several formats for your immediate downloading and all textures and materials as shown.
