Historical Background:
Austria operated a fleet of leased F-5E Tiger IIs from 2004 to 2008, borrowed from the Swiss Air Force as a temporary solution while awaiting delivery of the Eurofighter Typhoon. During this time, the F-5E served in the air policing role, helping to maintain Austria’s sovereign airspace under NATO-aligned standards.
Despite being a short-term solution, the Tiger II performed reliably and effectively. The aircraft were flown with Austrian roundels and red-white-red fin flashes, while retaining much of their original Swiss configuration. Their presence marked a unique chapter in the Luftstreitkräfte’s transition from the Saab Draken to modern multirole fighters.
Ideal Use Cases:
Cold War to early 2000s flight simulation
Austrian Air Force historical recreations
Military training or defense visualization
Aviation-themed cinematics and animations
Note: Lighting and scene setup used in promotional renders is not included in the downloadable files.
