Andriod 18 realtime character rig

Enjoy animating the infamous Andriod 18 from the Dragonball z universe. This real time model is fully rigged and shaded with DX11 shaders for a fantastic looking model.

Even better this model includes a dynamic hair setup as well as 2 other hair modes. The dynamic hair has been setup with ease of use in mind, hard and soft hair settings allow you to control how the hair looks and simulation time is near real-time ( playback each frame ).

The rigging system is simple to use but includes many advance features such as IK/FK switching, pinning etc. It uses the HUMANIK system developed by autodesk maya and comes default with Maya and Maya LT.

Check out the video previews of animation tests, model turntables and more.

Please check out all the product images for a preview of all the great features on this fun rig.

Please read the readme files included for instructions on using the rig.

Features - fast real-time model and rig - Dynamic hair or poly hair switching - 4k textures - HumanIK rigging system / compatible with motion capture input - DX11 shader setip - Blinn Shader fallback - includes Geo in 3 other formats - Detailed rig instructions and troublshooting readme

Notes - Rig was created with maya 2016, should work with maya 2014 onwards and Maya LT - Requires DX 11 and HumanIK plugins loaded ( comes with maya ) - No facial controls or face blenshapes.

Thanks for Downloading the Andriod 18 Character and Rig. Before using the rig, please take the time to read through these instructions, as the rig uses some default maya plugins, which may not be enabled by default.

Requirements Created using Maya 2016, but should work with 2014 onwards DX 11 compatible GFX Card DX11 shader maya plugin HumanIK maya Plugin

General Notes - Please use / create references to bring in the rig, this will avoid issues with naming ( try opening test scene Andriod18_scene_1_final.ma ) - default shader uses DX11, a blinn shader is included, but not as great. - DX 11 shader has a limit of 3 lights in viewport, switch to blinn if you need more. - Require HumanIK plugin, this comes with maya and maya LT, but you may need to load it ( read on for instructions ) - Rig uses three hair types, you can switch between them by the hairFX controller. - Smooth mesh preview should only be needed on the main body, it is on by default. - Global position and scale control ( andriod18_global_CTRL ) - non bind geo can be found under Andriod18_Ctrl_Reference TroubleShooting FILEPATHING All textures and dx11 shaders can be found in the maps folder. Enable DX 11 shader plugin - Windows // Settings/preferences / Plug-in manager // dx11Shader.mll / Loaded and AutoLoad - Close Enable the DX 11 Viewport - Windows // Settings/preferences // Preferences // Display // Viewport 2.0 / Rendering engine : DirectX 11 / Default viewport : Viewport 2.0 - SAVE Enable Dynamics - Windows // Settings/preferences // Preferences // Mododules // Dynamics - SAVE Enable HumanIK PLUGIN - Windows // Settings/preferences / Plug-in manager // mayaHIK.mll / Loaded and AutoLoad - Close Using HumanIK rigging system - Rigging menu // Skeleton // HumanIK - You should see a new right pane menu option called character controls / click on it - click "Controls" tab - Here are some HumanIK tutorials to get you started. http://help.autodesk.com/view/MAYAUL/2016/ENU//index.html?guid=GUID-735DF85A-331C-4049-8C70-E53EFCDB4B73 https://youtu.be/n649aTVZql8 https://youtu.be/-GfUNFTWWOA - For global tranform use "Andriod18_rig_20_final:Andriod18_Ctrl_Reference" LOCATOR

3. Using the Dyanmic Hair system The Character contains three different types of hair setup for you to choose from strips, strips simulated and polygon, these can be found on the hairFX controller. Stips Hair Type Simulation OFF: This will disable simulation on the hair, which is great for basic animation and posing while working Simulation ON: This will enable hair Simulation Sim Depth: Three different simulation types DEFAULT: Good for most cases SOFTER: This will make the hair flow more freely, good for slow motion shots HARDER: Use this option for fast transitions in the animation, this will avoid the hair blowing up :) Hair Collision: This will enable the hair to interact with the body, switch this off for faster simulation. Sim Start Frame: Set the start frame of your animation, you should have set this 5 - 10 frames before the animation begins.

TROUBLESHOOTING HAIR If the simulation is reacting wierd , check that you have set the Sim Start Frame to 5 - 10 frames before your first key. This will stablise the hair. No Simulation on hair. Check you have enabled Strips hair and enabled Simulation. Check you have dynamics enabled in the maya preferences. Please set playback mode to play every frame at max 24 frames, or simply playblast the camera for the hair simulation to play through.
