We know that doing what we love is very important in life. That's exactly why 3D world should keep an eye on modeler Dragos Burian - he's a student who enjoys his creative hobby and actually feels excited about increasing competition in this cruel, cruel world! We believe that sounds like a bright future for this charming guy. Take a look at our little chat, there's a strong chance you'll enjoy it!

Can you tell us a little about yourself and how you got into the 3D industry?

Hi there, my name is Dragos Burian and I split the free time I have between finishing my studies (I am a computer science student) and 3D modeling. I started using 3D software in 2012 when I had to do a simple animation for the physics class, but after I did it, I got more and more into Blender 3D and started making the first actual 3D models and haven't stopped ever since.

What kind of research process do you have?

I mainly use blueprints and pictures to get the info for most of the models. Once the model fits a few angles and these images are not off (I have seen a lot of inaccurate blueprints) the actual modeling begins and it usually takes a few days to finish. It's a lot better to spend more time on a single object than finishing a few in the same time which are of lower quality!

How do you market your products? Can you share some tips & tricks?

I didn't do too much about the marketing of my models, I just build, upload them and wait for something to happen. I guess that the better you build them, the less is the need for active marketing.

What do you enjoy most about working in 3D industry?

What I enjoy the most about modeling is that this is quite a pleasant activity for me as I don't view it as a chore or something that “has to be done”, I consider it a hobby. And nothing beats the feeling of making the final render of your model and be the first to see it finished.

What’s the hardest thing being a professional 3D designer?

The increasing competition maybe, but that makes things even more exciting after all!

What software do you use?

I only use Blender

3D for my models and no other form of editing. I am a supporter of “what you see is what you get” so I make a lot of renders from many angles and try to show every detail.

What are you working on next?

I would tell you if I knew it myself! I am very spontaneous with my ideas on what I’m going to do next. The mood of the day sends me to a certain task.

Please finish the following sentences (being as honest as you can ☺)

My greatest inspiration is … seeing young people trying to do something different, out of the common, being ready to take some risks to succeed.

I abandon some of my works because … there are already a lot of similar models available.

When I catch myself procrastinating, I … carry on! Life means much more than just work.

I’m most productive when … whenever there is no exam in the near future I guess!

I take a break from my work when … I feel like taking a long walk to clear my mind.
