Not often your hobby becomes your main source of income, but as it turns out that's possible - if you are in 3D industry! We had a little chat with Petr Mucka, founder of VisuArt 3D and a freelancer 3D artist who just loves everything about his work. Take a look at some of his works and keep in mind - a hobby is so much better when you make a living out of it!

Can you tell us a little about yourself and how you got into the 3D industry?

I have started doing 3D graphics 6 years ago as a hobby. As time went by it became a source of additional income to me and approximately 2 years ago it became my main profession. My main focus is custom modelling. I do High Poly models, interior and exterior visualisations and product visualisations. Selling models on 3D source sites is only minor attraction for me now.

What kind of research process do you have?

I don’t do any kind of research as for now I only sell models I have created as custom order without exclusive rights to some of my clients.

What do you enjoy most about working in 3D industry?

For me it’s freedom to work as a freelancer anywhere I want, with time schedule I want.

What are you working on next?

Now I work on some projects for my regular clients. But no specific models for 3D shops. I only do models for shops (and for fun) when I don’t have any custom projects.

Please finish the following sentences (being as honest as you can ☺)

My greatest inspiration is … to be able to work as a freelancer on various projects and do the work I like.

I abandon some of my works because … I never abandon any project!

When I catch myself procrastinating, I … stop working and go to do something else (relax, workout).

I’m most productive when … I have several ongoing projects with tight deadlines.

I take a break from my work when … I start to be restless.
