NEWMAN (WAR OF THE PLANETS) directed cult science-fiction classic. The menacing insectoid-type creature with the bug eyes, veiny limbs, pincer claws and big bulbous brain inspired the MARTIANS from TIM BURTON'S MARS ATTACKS (1996) and those cantina band members in GEORGE LUCAS' STAR WARS: EPISODE VI: A NEW HOPE (1977). The METALUNA MUTANT remains a Halloween costume favorite. The movie itself is based on a 1939 novel of the same name by RAYMOND F. JONES about a human-looking extra-terrestrial race known as the METALUNANS and their bid to escape their doomed planet which has been ravaged during conflict with rival aliens, the ZAGONS, and ultimately relocate to Earth - whether we like it or not.

The mutants have been created to be bred as slave warriors, with one stowing away on board a ship bound for Earth, piloted by two human scientists, FAITH DOMERGUE (RUTH ADAMS) and RED REASON (CAL MEACHAM), who were abducted by the METALUNANS but escaped ... or so they thought.
