The new feature film “Dauntless – the Battle of Midway” was created using 150 different stock 3D models purchased from the CGTrader Marketplace – saving an estimated one million US dollars in production costs. This is truly remarkable example of the advantages of using photorealistic stock 3D content in film and animation production.
Michael Swack from the CGTrader Blog caught up with Bayou Pictures owner and VFX producer Mike Phillips in Los Angeles at SIGGRAPH 2019 to discuss the role 3D content played in the film.

Just a few weeks ago, CGTrader hit another milestone in 3D content. The 800,000 th 3D model was uploaded to the CGTrader Marketplace. It was uploaded by Luis Lahuerta from 3D Everything, Spain.
Luis’ landmark 3D model is a baby’s room which he created over the course of 10 days, including all the models in the scene. The models were created in 3D Studio Max and exported to FBX, enabling use in all other 3D applications.
