This has led to speculation that seahorses evolved in response to large areas of shallow water, newly created as the result of tectonic events. The shallow water would have allowed the expansion of seagrass habitats that served as camouflage for the seahorses' upright posture.[9] These tectonic changes occurred in the western Pacific Ocean, pointing to an origin there, with molecular data suggesting two later, separate invasions of the Atlantic Ocean.[10] In 2016, a study published in Nature found the seahorse genome to be the most rapidly evolving fish genome studied so far.[11]\n\nThe evolution of seahorses from pipefish may have been an adaptation related to the biomechanics of prey capture. The spherical mold design was chosen because it provides the most reliable casting results. Other mold concepts were tested, but due to the numerous 45-degree spines, many cavities did not fill properly, and creating effective vent channels proved difficult.\n\nWith the spherical design, every channel can be reached using a long needle. If necessary, you can use a drill driver and a needle to carefully clear the final 2 mm of a channel. This is a quick and simple process that ensures perfect flow throughout the mold.\n\nBefore first use, remember to apply a small drop of lubricant to the mold. I personally print, test, and cast every design shown here, and I share the actual results.
