
Spherical 3-Gear Tesla Turbine - Concept
Instead of discs, i use a more massive sphere, and multiple inlets, instead of one. each inlet pair can be pressurized separately, and results in different grips, or gears. we can use water pressure, or air pressure, or combine them both as we have multiple inlets. for instance, the top inlets could be used with steam, or pressurized gas, and the bottom inlets could be used to pump water through the engine, along more than half the motors spherical shapes surface. more area to be gripped by the water or air than on the sides of a disc, more surface to work with, less mass to rotate than the full discs, as the shape bends down and outward while discs remain of a single diameter.
added the bottom outlet nozzle, created a slanted shape that fits inside, guiding flow down and over it as there is little room but for the most non moving heavy water that wants to fall down and out. we could only pressurize one side of the spinning drum, both outer sides, and also the center one. if we pressurize all three, this could be gear one, if we only pressurized the outer 2, gear 2, and if we only pressurized the center one when in full motion, we could have a gear 3. depending on how much friction is actually needed to maintain a solid spin. weather we feed air or weather we feed water to the engine, different configurations are possible at all times.
i have also added drum breaks, or room for them inside the motor, allowing to brake directly on the block. the drums can be pressured inward, creating friction with the sides of the turning sphere of the motor. allowing us to slow down the core directly. inside the core a ball bearings allowing for a smooth turning of the core around the center axis intended for work. we could also experiment with a different amount and or different grooves, their width, their depth, etc.
i imagine it would be beautiful to have a perspex translucent spherical container for the engine. or maybe even more parts made of perspex, so we can see the inner workings of the motor. the motor is besides of course water cooled, also self cooled by the side fans, powered by the main axis. both pushing air inward, and spread out all over the spherical shape cooling the motor equally.
