He was imprisoned for many years, upon many occasions, in both South Africa and India. He lived modestly in a self-sufficient residential community and wore the traditional Indian dhoti and shawl, woven with yarn hand-spun on a charkha. He ate simple vegetarian food, and also undertook long fasts as a means of both self-purification and political protest.\n\nGandhi's vision of an independent India based on religious pluralism was challenged in the early 1940s by a new Muslim nationalism which was demanding a separate Muslim homeland carved out of India. In August 1947, Britain granted independence, but the British Indian Empire was partitioned into two dominions, a Hindu-majority India and Muslim-majority Pakistan.[11] As many displaced Hindus, Muslims, and Sikhs made their way to their new lands, religious violence broke out, especially in the Punjab and Bengal. Eschewing the official celebration of independence in Delhi, Gandhi visited the affected areas, attempting to provide solace. In the months following, he undertook several fasts unto death to stop religious violence. The last of these, undertaken on 12 January 1948 when he was 78, also had the indirect goal of pressuring India to pay out some cash assets owed to Pakistan. Some Indians thought Gandhi was too accommodating. Among them was Nathuram Godse, a Hindu nationalist, who assassinated Gandhi on 30 January 1948 by firing three bullets into his chest.\n\nGandhi's birthday, 2 October, is commemorated in India as Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday, and worldwide as the International Day of Nonviolence. Gandhi is commonly, though not formally considered the Father of the Nation in India. Gandhi is also called Bapu (Gujarati: endearment for father, papa).\n\n\nFound at road circle near to Mapusa town, Goa, India\n3D scanned with DSLR camera, photos processed with Reality Capture and Zbrush.","imageAlt":"gandhi Gandhi Mapusa 3DP","url":"https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-print-models/art/sculpture/gandhi-mapusa-3dp","isCLDApplicable":false,"isSaleOffApplicable":true,"gaAttributes":{},"primaryImage":{"gridFallbackUrl":"https://media.cgtrader.com/variants/Cf3r33h4MqaU2Fkq4pshKyVL/a26e47dab5f2d22c43d6c5ce4b4b46ecc30c70918878397cba1a10c1e35d7bfc/screenshot001057.jpg","gridUrl":"https://media.cgtrader.com/variants/Cf3r33h4MqaU2Fkq4pshKyVL/78add9c2f02fbd73a43ffb3970be38683c5f15eff6ca849dc78c644f4ff9ce1b/screenshot001057.webp","isAdultContent":false},"modelInfo":{"modelUrl":"https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-print-models/art/sculpture/gandhi-mapusa-3dp","isCgtVerified":false,"types":{"printReady":true,"animated":false,"pbr":false,"rigged":false,"lowPoly":false}},"metaverseFormatsList":[{"id":6,"name":".c4d","is_native":true},{"id":51,"name":".stl","is_native":false},{"id":21,"name":".blend","is_native":false},{"id":13,"name":".3dm","is_native":false},{"id":2,"name":".3ds","is_native":false},{"id":12,"name":".obj","is_native":false},{"id":7,"name":".dxf","is_native":false},{"id":5,"name":".fbx","is_native":false},{"id":99,"name":".hda","is_native":false},{"id":25,"name":".dae","is_native":false},{"id":8,"name":".lwo","is_native":false},{"id":117,"name":".gltf","is_native":false},{"id":17,"name":".max","is_native":false},{"id":11,"name":".ma","is_native":false},{"id":33,"name":".lxo","is_native":false},{"id":137,"name":".tbscene","is_native":false},{"id":55,"name":".ztl","is_native":false}],"categorySlug":"art","subcategorySlug":"sculpture","categoryTitle":"Art \u0026 Design","subcategoryTitle":"Sculptures","schemaImageUrl":"https://img-new.cgtrader.com/items/2091980/6ef0de1cd1/gandhi-mapusa-3dp-3d-model-6ef0de1cd1.webp","saleOffDiscount":50,"eligibleForSubscription":false,"subscriptionSubscribed":false,"subscriptionPotential":false}},{"id":"2076383","type":"listingItem","attributes":{"id":2076383,"title":"Gandhi by Karmarkar 3DP","price":100.0,"description":"A sculpture of Mahatma Gandhi, by name of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, (born October 2, 1869, Porbandar, India—died January 30, 1948, Delhi), \nIndian lawyer, politician, social activist, and writer who became the leader of the nationalist movement against the British rule of India.\n\nFound in private collection in Mumbai.
