The Boeing CH-47 Chinook is a tandem rotorcraft military helicopter originally developed by the American helicopter company Vertol and now manufactured by Boeing Defense, Space & Security. The Chinook is a cargo helicopter that is among the heaviest-lifting Western helicopters. Its name comes from the Chinook Native American indigenous people of Oregon and Washington. The Chinook was used in the Vietnam War, Iran–Iraq War, Falklands War, Gulf War, and the War in Afghanistan and Iraq.
