KELLY FREAS ROBOT

KELLY FREAS ROBOT 3D print model

Description

Printable model of the iconic robot drawn by Kelly Freas for the march 1954 issue of Astounding Science Fiction. In 1977 the figure was revamped by the musical group The Queen for their record cover and a 3d animated short clip used in the concerts. In the '90s Hottoys produced a limited number of model kits based on the robot, which are now rare and hard to find, at high prices. I based my sculpt using references by all the three concepts, because original art doesn't show several parts, so I took suggestions from the record cover, the videoclip and even the model kit (hands, wrists, feet most of all). It isn't easy to make such a model which is distorted by the artist's perspective, but I think result is good enough and proportion close to the illustration, a great item, especially considering that the model kit is almost impossible to find. It is 25 centimeters in height, resin based printer is recommended. Depending on the size of your printer bed, you may have the need to split the figure in parts. I suggest to cut its right hand also and print it separately, to improve details of the man.
