DESCRIPTION

Among the most impressive monuments of the city of Sulina we find the Observatory Lighthouse or the Lighthouse of the European Commission of the Danube. Built in its current form between 1869-1870 by the European Commission of the Danube after the project of the doctor M. Engelhardt under the coordination of Sir Charles A. Hartley, the truncated conical lighthouse has a height of 17.34m.

Currently, the Sulina Lighthouse operates as a museum, among the exhibits the pieces of furniture that belonged to the writer Jean Bart and his family photos, the collection of weapons from the 18th - 20th centuries, medals, documents, maps and photos regarding the activity European Commission of the Danube.
