This design of mine includes a smaller weight bay which will need to be filled wisely with new weight. \n\nNote: This detailing is not 100% accurate and is only a representation, whilst designing this it was very clear early on that I couldn't get the detailed 100% due to Hornby/Lima cramming this in a smaller area than it should be. I have had to use some design licenses to get this to look fairly realistic due to the restraints.\n\nI have also created an instruction manual that can also be downloaded to help you complete this project.\n\nPlease see the photos for more info; this has been produced from photos I have found on the internet and working with the Hornby/Lima model as it is.  The underframe components have been produced from drawings of the real DMU. As normal with my designs, there is a balance between accuracy and printability, hopefully not affecting the look of the model too much.\n\nThe model comes in multiple components to aid printing, fitting, and painting. I have created a new weight bay that will fit in place of the old one and will assist in mounting the underfloor details. To do this you will need to cut off the old underfloor weight box as shown in photos and then fit the new weight box and glue it in place to give model rigidity. Unfortunately, items do get damaged or broken on this class of loco. \n\nI had a Class 50 with broken Compressor detailing on the underframe and missing Buffer Steps. Getting spares was near impossible so I decided to design some spares people can download and print.\n\nThese are not 100% accurate but are good representations like Hornby has produced. The compressors on the model can easily be broken if you accidentally touch this area when you pick up the model, I have created a version of this as is and another with a rear support to make it a little more robust. You will need to remove the body from the chassis and glue the replacement in place.\n\nThe Buffer Steps are a fragile item on this model and can easily be broken or lost. I have created a version very similar to the original but slightly stronger for when printed with resin. There are locating pins available but a dab of glue wouldn't go amiss. (If you have broken sprung buffers I would recommend you replace them with Accursascale Class 37 Oval Sprung buffers which are identical to the Class 50's)\n\nThese designs have been designed to be printed on a resin 3d printer. Personnally I would enlarged the hole to 8mm so the motor woukd sit better in the housing with some sticky plastic to insulate.\nNote 3: Motors that are less than 12v rating, then it might be worth researching installing something between DCC decoder or track pickups and the motor to reduce voltage getting to the motor and limit the chance of burning out the motor.\n\nI have also done a design for Bo-Bo wheel arrangemnt which enables you to use a deeper motor of about 12.5mm.\nThis model has been designed to be printed on a resin 3d printer. The example in the photos has been printed on a AnyCubic Photon M3 Resin 3D printer and used on a old Lima Class 47 bogie.
