DESCRIPTION

The model was created at a 1:200 scale in Rhinoceros and precisely matches the drawings from the latest edition of Anatomy of the Ship: Yamato and Musashi. The level of detail also allows printing at larger scales. Please note that the presence of small details down to 0.05 mm meets the capabilities of modern photopolymer 3D printers. To work with the model and adapt the results to your requirements, I am attaching the OBJ file. The models have been checked for printability in Autodesk Netfabb Ultimate 2024.

Brief Description

Purpose. The Type 95 is a short-range fire-control director designed primarily for 25 mm anti-aircraft guns. It allowed a single director unit to control several 25 mm mounts simultaneously, providing aiming, target tracking, and transmission of electrical signals to the elevation and training motors on the mounts located on the ship’s stern or sides. In case of electrical failure or damage to the system, the gunners could switch to manual aiming.

Variants / Modifications. There were open versions (without armor protection) and enclosed versions equipped with a protective shield or “hood.” On large warships—such as late-war modifications of the Yamato—special protective domes or light armored housings were installed around the director to protect it from blast effects. Model and reconstruction sources classify these as “Yamato-type covered” versions.(Reference: ja.wikipedia.org)

Technical Features (General). The Type 95 operated in conjunction with power-assisted training and elevation mechanisms (including 1 h.p. motors for azimuth and elevation on some mounts). It enabled grouping several 25 mm mounts into a single fire unit under one director, transmitting electrical control signals to the mounts. It was a short-range director, unlike the long-range Type 94 fire-control systems used for the 127 mm and 120 mm guns.

Ships on Which It Was Installed

Battleships and Cruisers of the IJN.The Type 95 was widely used across the Imperial Japanese Navy to control Type 96 25 mm AA mounts and similar light anti-aircraft weapons. It was installed on battleships of the Yamato class (including late-war modifications), on Musashi, as well as on many heavy and light cruisers and destroyers—especially as the number of light AA weapons increased during the war.
