Description

TE3 is a Soviet twelve-axle freight diesel locomotive with a capacity of 2 × 2000 hp. Produced from 1953 to 1973 at the Kharkov, Kolomna and Voroshilovgrad (Lugansk) factories. Since TE3 diesel locomotives were building three plants at once, these locomotives quickly appeared in all corners of the USSR. The TE3 diesel locomotive became the most massive series on the road network of the Soviet Union; it was operated, among other things, at the Baikonur cosmodrome, in the Chernobyl exclusion zone, and on the Baikal-Amur Mainline. Diesel locomotives continued to be built until 1973, a total of 6,797 diesel locomotives were produced. We can say that diesel locomotive TE3 is an integral and memorable part of the history of Soviet railway transport. The railway workers gave this car the affectionate name Swallow. On the Baikal-Amur Mainline it was called Dragon. A simplified image of the TE3 locomotive is placed on the emblem of the Lokomotiv football club (Moscow).
