When someone approached me to look at doing these they complained that the cost of these sheets was getting more and more expensive, so I thought it was time to add them to my collection.\n\nI had thought about doing them in the past with my resin printer but are probably better suited to FDM printing, I also hope to do sheets for other types of brick formations and other building materials. With this design I have also done a edging strip as brick formations like this often have edging around them. Other options will be added as and when I get to them, so if not available please wait or feel free to contact me.\n\nI have included the following sheet sizes (sheet sizes are based on brick size in the OO scale).\n30mm x 96mm, 60mm x 96mm, 90mm x 96mm, 120mm x 96mm, 150mm x 96mm.\n30mm x 192mm, 60mm x 192mm, 90mm x 192mm, 120mm x 192mm, 150mm x 192mm.\nEdging strips are 3mm x 96mm and 3mm x 192mm.\nThe sheets are 1.56mm thick which is based on the layer height being 0.12mm. \n\ndesigned at OO gauge, 1/76.2 scale but can easily be scaled for other gauges.\nfor HO gauge print at 87%, 1/87 Scale,\nfor TT gauge print at 63.5% 1/120 Scale,\nfor O gauge UK at 175%, 1/43.5 Scale,\nfor O gauge International print at 158%, 1/48 Scale,\nfor N gauge print at 51.49%, 1/148 Scale, (Caution: I have not printed this model in N gauge so I can’t guarantee its printability)\n\nThe example in the pictures was printed on a Bambu Labs A1 FDM Printer.\nAs normal with my designs, there is a balance between accuracy and printability, hopefully not affecting the look of the model too much.\n\nFor FDM printing, I used a 0.2mm nozzle and a layer height of 0.20mm using PLA+ filament. You can use a 0.4mm nozzle but the corners of the brick won't be as sharp, can also be printed in PLA but I recommend PLA+ or PETG for better durability. The hex head of the bolt should fit snugly into the cavity in the underside of the carrier.  Thread a M5 hex nut onto the bolt from the other side and turn it until it's tight against the plastic.  This will hold the bolt in place to the carrier.  After installing the M5 bolt, press one 625 bearing into the cavity in the underside of the carrier.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ePush one M5 hex nut into each of the three hexagonal pockets in the underside of the Carrier part.  Thread a 25mm M5 screw in through the top of the Carrier and through the nut.  Tighten well, you don't want these coming loose.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ePush three M3 hex nuts into the three cavities on the Sun gear.  Make sure the holes on the hex nuts are lined up with the holes in the plastic.  Now turn three M3 set screws into the holes and thread them into the nuts.  Push the Sun gear onto the output shaft of your motor, with the end of the sun gear with the set screws closer to the motor face.  Don't tighten the screws yet, you'll want to wait until assembling the gearbox to tighten that down.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAttach the 'Rear Plate' part to your motor with four 10mm M3 screws.  The side of the plate that's against the print bed goes against the motor face.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ePut the 'Ring Back' piece against the 'Rear Plate' part.  The flatter side of the ring should face away from the motor.  Now insert the three planet gears between the ring and the sun gear.  Note that the orientation of the planet gears matters, they only go in one way.  You will want to get them evenly spaced 120 degrees around the sun gear.  The 'carrier' piece can be used for this, as it will lock the three planets in place.  You can also tighten the three set screws on the Sun gear at this point.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eOnce you have the planets and the carrier in place, you can install the 'Ring front' part.  This only goes on one way, there are alignment arrows on the two halves of the ring gear that should line up.  Use the 8 20mm long M3 screws through the 8 holes in the ring gear halves to screw them together tightly, you don't want them to be able to move relative to each other.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ePut four M3 hex nuts into the four small hex cavities in the 'Front Plate' piece, these are for mounting it to your extruder.  Push one 625 bearing into the circular cavity in the underside of the 'Front Plate' piece.  Now slide the front plate over the M5 bolt, and line up the 4 mounting holes on the plates and the 4 long posts on the ring gear assembly.  Use the 50mm long M3 screws thru the mounting holes to clamp everything together.  Tweak the alignment until you can push the carrier around by hand.  You may need to run the motor for an hour or so until the gearbox works smoothy.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eYou should be able to use the gear assembly in place of your existing motor, attaching it to your extruder by the 4 M3 hex nuts on the front, and attaching your drive gear to the M5 bolt.  The M5 bolt isn't as well supported as a motor output shaft would be, so you'll want to make sure your extruder has a second 625 bearing on the output shaft to help support it.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eETA:  I have added the source files for this project.  Only the gears are scad, the rest of the parts are hand-drawn in Autocad. It also causes the motor driver board to overheat and cut out.  I'm only running a 0.5mm nozzle, but these problems only get worse with a 0.35mm nozzle.  \u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSome people have switched to a stepper motor with an integrated planetary reduction.  That works, but the gearbox on that has a shaft which is larger than the 5mm hole in the MK7 drive gear I'm using.  I don't have access to the required machine tools to safely modify my drive gear for a larger shaft.  So instead I decided to make my own gear reducer using stuff from my junkbox.  \u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe gear assembly itself is based on gear code from Emmett's Automatic Transmission Model: \u003ca rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:34778\"\u003ehttp://www.thingiverse.com/thing:34778\u003c/a\u003e  \u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe extruder is originally based on the Airtripper extruder, but has been changed to the point of unrecognizability.  I changed the design to use bearings and bolts I had on hand, and modified the pinch arm to use a single bolt with a hand-friendly knob to make it easy to adjust the pressure on the bearing.  \u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eI have also changed the design to use the following push-fit connector:  \u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003ca rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004M8T2QE/ref=oh_details_o00_s01_i00\"\u003ehttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004M8T2QE/ref=oh_details_o00_s01_i00\u003c/a\u003e  \u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThis holds better than the all-plastic designs I had been using, and also makes it easy to remove the Bowden tube when required.  \u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAll of the gears have prime numbers of teeth, which in theory should cause them to wear more evenly over time.  The final gear reduction is about 4.36:1.  \u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eI'm posting this design as a point of reference for anyone who is designing their own extruder using a printed gearbox.  I don't recommend just printing these parts as-is as this design was specifically based around the bearings and bolts I had on hand.  It's also fairly experimental as I don't know how printed gears will hold up long-term.  I've run it for a few hours and it seems to be working so far.  \u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eUpdate:  After running for about a year, the gearbox still works smoothly. Use low-profile screws if possible so the planet gears don't crash into them.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThree of the 4-40 hex nuts get pressed into the cavities in the sun gear, and then the three short 4-40 screws are threaded into them to secure the sun gear onto the motor shaft.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eEach \"planetgear\" part gets two of the R4RS bearings pressed into it, one from each side.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe M5 bolt gets pressed into the carrier piece, from the bottom side, so that the hex head of the bolt is snug in the hex cavity in the carrier.  One of the 625 bearings is then pressed into the carrier, covering the bolt head.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ePress three of the hex nuts for the 1/4\" shoulder screws into the three hex cavities on the upper side of the carrier.  Screw three shoulder screws in from the bottom side.  Tighten them well, use locktite to make sure they're not going anywhere.  Then get a Dremel tool or something similar and cut the heads of the bolts off, so they only extend half an inch from the carrier.  These three bolts will carry the three planet gears, but you have to cut their heads off so they don't hit the motor.  Don't worry, the fact that this is a herringbone gear assembly keeps them from going anywhere.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe parts \"ringgear\" and \"ringgear backhalf\" are the two halves of the outer ring gear.  This part has to be made in two pieces because the gearbox would be very difficult to assemble otherwise.  The two halves of the ring gear are held together with eight 4-40 screws, but the assembly can be a little tricky.   The two ring halves only line up properly one way, so you have to look carefully at the teeth to make sure they line up properly when you're assembling them.  In retrospect, I should have designed alignment marks into the pieces.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe \"ringgear backhalf\" part goes closer to the motor, separated from the \"Motorplate\" part by a gap defined by a single 6-32 hex nut.  The three planet gears go equally spaced around the sun.  The bearing in the center of the carrier piece fits over the end of the motor shaft, and the three cut-off bolts on the carrier locate the three planet gears.  You can then fit the \"ringgear\" part over the carrier, being careful to line it up properly, and then anchor the two halves of the ring gear together with eight 4-40 screws.  Once you're sure you have the orientation right, those screws should be really tight with locktite on the nuts - you don't want these loosening up over time.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe \"Axle\" part has a flange which is just there to help it print more reliably.  Cut that bit off after printing it.  The Axle then goes through the 1614RS bearing, which is then pressed into the \"Arm\" piece.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe \"Body\" piece has a bit of support material in the pocket where the arm mounts.  Cut the support material away, and then secure the arm in place with the last 1/4\" shoulder screw.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eDrill out the filament path thru passage on the body with a 4mm drill.  Cut two pieces of bowden tube - one about .3\" long, one at least 1.5\" long - to fit into the passage.  This will guide the filament through the extruder block.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eUse a socket head driver to screw the push-fit connector into the bottom of the Body part.  There are no printed screws threads, but they aren't really needed as the brass threads on the push-fit connector will cut into the plastic.  Make sure you thread the connector in straight, having it at any angle will make it harder to feed filament through.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ePress two 625 bearings into the Body, one from the rear and one from the front.  Place the MK7 drive gear between the bearings, and then lower the body assembly over the M5 bolt that is the output shaft from the gear reducer.  Use four 6-32 flathead screws to secure the motor, gear reducer, and extruder body together.  Turn a M5 hex nut over the exposed end of the M5 screw, and then tighten the set screw on the MK7 drive gear to secure it to the M5 bolt.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ePress the M4 screw through the \"Knob\" part, so that the hex head on the screw is firm in the hex pocket on the knob.  Put a washer, a spring, and then another washer over the screw.  Feed the screw through the hole in the arm, and the hole in the flange on the body.  The M4 hex nut goes in the pocket on the flange, and the M4 screw threads into it.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe extruder mounts to the underside of the top structural plate on the printer by three M3 screws.  If you're mounting the extruder somewhere other than the top inside center of your printer, you'll have to figure a different mounting scheme.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThat's about it.  I've only run mine for a few hours so far, but it seems to run smoothly.  The motor is getting mildly warm at most, and the stepper motor driver has yet to overheat.  It seems to be performing very well, retraction during move especially is quite crisp and there's not much ooze.  I'm going to have to run it for a while to know the long-term reliability of the printed gears.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eETA:  I have added the source files for this project.  Only the gears are scad, the rest of the parts are hand-drawn in Autocad.
