From the research, it was quite obvious that the only real option was to create a generic-looking design that resembled the majority of Automatic Couplers. This V1 design has the Electrical Coupler above the Coupler Head. \n\nNote: this is a representation of an automatic uncoupler and not actually a automatic uncoupler.\n\nAs this is designed to be a fuctional magnetic coupler the design is designed to be robust and strong and therefor is a representation of a Automatic Uncoupler and not a 100% accurate match, but in model form I hope it looks realistic.\n\nTo repesent the coupler head a little more accurate I have arranged the magnets to be fitted in two arrangements, one protruding and the other recessed.  \n\nThese items are designed to be printed on a 3D Resin printer.\n\nMy biggest concern with this was the strength of a resin for something like a coupling, so the design was kept fairly simple to maximize the strength. With the ABS-like resin I have had minimal failures but nothing is perfect.\n\nI have included a range of sizes as different rolling stock need different lengths (Please message me if you would like other sizes).\n    These magnetic autocoupler comes in 8mm, 9mm, 10mm, 11mm and 12mm versions (Distances are measured from NEM socket to Magnet Face - see pictures).\nMagnets need to be glued in and you need to have the correct magnetic polarity for each magnet. It connectes and breaks very smooth and has proved to be durrable when disconecting.  I created this becasue the free versions I found did not work well at all.  They either printed poorly or failed easily.  This design connects the ends very easily, but requires a good pull to separate.   This is usable for any cord, but was desinged for both 1/8\" and 1/16\" paracord.   Just pass the cord through he hole and knot the end.  With 1/8\" cord on the inner part work the knot in slowly.  I have printed and used this design to connect bracelets, necklaces, key chains.  Really could be used anywhere you want two items connected with a cord, but able to break free.  \n\nI print in PLA, but any plastic will do.  Each part prints very easy with the cord side down thus preserving critical features.  I'd suggest using a brim to maintain attachment to the build plate.  Using standard speeds and normal build height of 0.15, each part builds in about 5 minutes.\n\nIf you have any suggested tweeks or modified versions you could use, just message me and and I'd be happy I have found them very reliable and the magnets work very well. The ABS like resin is definately recommend for these when printing.\n\nIn 2023 I bought some Hornby Magnetic couplings for my Hornby MK2F coaches but they were not long enough, I was very impressed with the magnetic strength of these couplings on other rolling stock. I tried some Kadee couplings but the sag in the couplings was causing issues going over points etc. I looked at Hunt Couplings but wasn't that happy with the look of the coupling and wasn't sure how they would couple to my Hornby Magnetic couplings. This was beginning to frustrate me so I finally decided to see if I could develop a similar coupling to the Hornby Magnetic coupling that I could print and install magnets. I found 2mm x 1mm round magnets on eBay for about £4.50 (50 off) and I started to develop a coupling. \n\nMy biggest concern with this was the strength of a resin for something like a coupling, so the design was kept fairly simple to maximize the strength. I printed my first set with AnyCubic black resin and installed magnets, I made a few modifications before testing a whole rake of 6 coaches on a model layout. After about 2 hours of testing I had no failures and the performance was really good. I then bought some AnyCubic ABS-like resin which proved to be better than the standard resin.\n\nMagnets used: \n\nhttps://amzn.to/3WZoThF **(Amazon)** Associate Link\n\nPlease be aware that 3D printed couplings will not be as strong as injected molded couplings, with using these you will probably need spares on hand in case of any break. With the ABS-like resin I have had minimal failures but nothing is perfect.\n\nI have included a range of sizes as different rolling stock need different lengths (Please message me if you would like other sizes).\n    Files with 75 are 7.5mm, 85 are 8.5mm, 100 are 10mm and 115 are 11.5mm (Distances are measured from NEM socket to Magnet Face - see pictures).\nMagnets need to be glued in and you need to have the correct magnetic polarity for each magnet.
