Artistic gymnastics is a sport that consists in performing various gymnastic and dance exercises to music without an object, as well as with an object (a jump rope, a Hoop, a ball, a Mace, a ribbon).
Recently, performances without a subject are not held in world-class competitions. In group performances, either one item is used (for example, five balls, five pairs of clubs, five hoops), or two types of items are used simultaneously (for example, hoops and clubs, ribbons and balls, jump ropes and balls). Winners are determined in the all-around, in individual types and group exercises.
All exercises are accompanied by music. Previously, they performed under the piano or one instrument. Orchestral phonograms are now used. The choice of music depends on the wishes of the gymnast and the coach. But each exercise should be no more than one and a half minutes. Competitions are held on the gymnastics carpet measuring 13x13 meters. Classic all-around (4 exercises) is an Olympic discipline. In addition to the all-around competition, gymnasts competing in the individual championship traditionally compete for sets of awards in certain types of exercises (except for the Olympic games). In group competitions, each of the two performances lasts 2 and a half minutes. Team competitions are also held, when the sum of the performances of several gymnasts is counted, sometimes even simultaneously in individual and group competitions (and of different ages).
One of the most elegant sports. In the USSR, artistic gymnastics as a sport originated and formed in the 1940s. Since 1984, it has been an Olympic sport. Until recently, only women's sport, but since the end of the XX century, thanks to the efforts of Japanese gymnasts, competitions have been held between men.
