These panels are held in by strong little magnets which makes popping them on and off a breeze. They also feature little rubber bumpers so that they don’t get scratched up whenever you remove and stack them up against each other.\n\nSecond, it’s a really carefully tailored design aimed to be as spatially efficient as possible, just so that the enclosure doesn’t end up using way more space than the printer itself.\n\nIt also features a rear port that can act as a window or attachment point for a camera or as a mounting point for ventilation.\n\nIt doesn’t require all that much printing - just the corners, hinges, and vents. While the remainder does require CNC machining or laser cutting, all of the clear panels fit onto a single 4x8’ sheet of 3/16in acrylic (0.160in actual, or 4mm), while the opaque black parts fit on less than 32x32in of 1/4in (0.22in actual, or 5.5mm) acrylic.\n\nThis design is also lighting-ready, including a 3.5mm dc plug port in the rear and a switch box on the side so that, should you decide to run LED strips inside, you’ve got all the necessary ancillary components pre-fitted and ready to go.\n\nFinally, assembly only requires some deburring, countersinking, installing heat-set inserts, sticking on some rubber pieces, and screwing it all together.\n\nNotes:\nThis design has been tested for over a year before release. Nothing noteworthy to mention other than, the adhesive that holds the doors on works a lot better if you sand the spot where it sticks (these areas get scored into the acrylic so finding and sanding the right areas is very straight forward. It's held up really well otherwise.\n\nPlease Note!\n\nThis project does require either CNC machining or laser cutting. If you don’t have access to either, feel free to reach out for a quote or we can help connect you with a local / reputable laser cutting service.\n\nAlso, this project is being released as a “working release,” meaning the download includes a copy of the master file (in STEP/OBJ format) with all of the components accounted for and all of the hardware located. While it does bring your ribbon cable closer to the heated bed, Bender is designed to almost completely shelter your cable and protect it from any prolonged, direct heating while also allowing you to protect it further with the addition of a kapton tape shield and/or PET sleeving (as portrayed in the project images). \n\nIt’s made up of four relatively simple to print parts, all at about 0.18” (4.5mm) thick, so it should be relatively strong and easy to print with a variety of materials and methods; that said we do recommend going with nylon or a carbon-filled filament (no PLA!), printing with a denser infill, printing with more shells, and making sure your layers adhere very well to each other prior to going forward with installation. Tolerances are snug so some minor sanding and adjusting may be required if you get a lot of zits or blobs; however, if your settings are pretty dialed in, everything should go together pretty easily. \n\nAs for assembly, there are no screws involved in the process so you will need to install bender with a very thin and strong adhesive such as VHB 5907, and we think it’s best to secure the cable restraining caps using a thin 1/2in (or 12mm) nylon double-sided Velcro; though a comparable/suitable nylon tape should work just as well. \n\nIn this download you’ll find five fine-meshed, ready-to-print-STL’s files for the printed parts, DXF’s for the adhesive strips, as well as a bill of materials that specs all of the ancillary components (with McMaster links) and provides some additional information pertinent to production and assembly. We’ll also quickly note that we’re including both versions for the bottom component, V1 being our first ready-to-make version and V2 being our more optimized, smaller, and (arguably) better looking version with the only trade-off being, V1 has a slightly larger opening and may be a little easier to install. \n\nNeed one printed for you? Feel free to reach out, I'd be happy to quote you for a kit containing all of the ancillary components needed.\n\nTips: \n\nWe strongly recommend printing with a tough, temperature resistant material such as ABS, Nylon, or a variant containing carbon fiber.
