To do this I looked at several items of rolling stock. To get this right I needed the length of the rolling stock, the width of the rolling stock, and the distance between the center of each bogie. I also looked at this in a very similar way for steam engines. Within the club, people said to use a mk3 coach, but after calculating the overhang mk3 coaches are not the best piece of rolling stock to use. Depending on bogie spacing some had a bigger external overhang but minimal internal overhand. The new class 800 IEP I wouldn't use on a track with a platform on a curve because to overhang exceeds all other rolling stock by a fair distance.\n\nThis tool is primarily a train bogie with two arms, one for the internal overhang and the other for the external overhang. I used two old plastic wheels so I could roll it around curved and Mark with a pencil.\n\nThree tools can be printed for each radius of the tractrack. 2nd radius (438mm), 3rd radius (505mm) and 4th radius (572mm). If just use two they tend to move whilst cleaning the wheels. A couple of members within my club approached me to see if I could create a joiner on my 3D printer rather than buy a third GM60 (GM60’s are not cheap to buy).\n\nWhen I started looking at this I thought it would be better to do a universal kit that can be used with any locomotive or multiple unit. Wheel formations and distances change for all sorts of rolling stock. This kit enables you to make any formation for all the locomotives and rolling stock you have. I have also created ends so your train is less likely to run off the end.\n\nThe centre joining centre comes in 20mm, 40mm, 60mm, 80mm, 100mm and 120mm lengths, I have also added guide rails on these sections in case and wheels fall within this area. The connections also use the same dovetail connector as the GM60 (the female end is designed to slide down the male end and not the other way around).\n\nPlease see photo’s for more information.\n\nI have tested this design on a Bambu Labs A1 FDM printer and printed these in the correct orientation. The ends will need supports to be printed.\n\nWhen printing on a FDM printer I recommend you use a filament like PETG or PLA+.
