EBIH II","price":99.0,"description":"**Description of the statue**\n\n**Detail of the head and bust**\nThe statue, 53 centimetres high, was sculpted from a single block of very fine-grained alabaster. The almond-shaped eyes are inlaid in shell with lapis lazuli irises, precious materials imported from the Persian Gulf and Afghanistan respectively. The eyes and eyebrows are marked with bitumen, traces of which are also found in the locks of the beard.\n\nThe statue shows a bearded man with a shaved head, as was the fashion for Mari dignitaries. The eyebrows, known as fishbones, are joined in the middle. He sits on a seat made of sewn reeds - the statue was found with legs that were removed in the 1950s. The bust is and slightly slimmed at the waist. The figure wears a long woven kaunakes (skirt), probably a sheepskin , held at the waist by a belt tied at the lower back. His hands are brought to his chest, the right hand resting on the closed left hand. A non-epigraphic incision, but resembling the cuneiform sign kúr, marks the place of the navel. A five-frame inscription is carved on the back of the right shoulder, the usual location for statues of Mari. The inscription is in cuneiform characters that transcribe a Semitic language, specific to the region of Mari and close to that of Ebla, a contemporary Syrian kingdom. Mari does not belong to the Sumerian world.\n\nThe work bears traces of ancient restoration. The legs originally belonged to the same block as the rest of the statue, and had been excavated from the seat; the front of the seat still bears traces of cutting and has no decoration, unlike the back. Unbalanced by the excessive weight of the kaunakes, the statue collapsed on its front and the legs were broken at the ankles. The damaged part was sawn off in antiquity and two cavities were made under the front of the kaunakes, allowing both the insertion of new legs and the lightening of the whole. A deep notch was also made under the front of the seat for a new base.\n\nThe statue of Ebih-Il is a votive statue from the Archaic Dynasty III period (2500-2334 BC), discovered in 1934 at the site of Mari in Syria by the French;\nRepresenting a dignitary with the title of nu-bandà, generally translated as 'steward' or 'inspector', most likely a high-ranking dignitary, it is considered a masterpiece of Mesopotamian statuary.\n\n**Discovery**\nThe statue of Ebih-Il was discovered in two pieces by André Parrot's mission to Tell Hariri in Syria: the head was unearthed on 22 January 1934, followed the next day, a few metres away, by the body and another smaller statuette. The site was later identified by André Parrot as the pavement of the southern outer courtyard of a temple at Istar Virile. These are the first major discoveries of the excavations, started in winter 1933 after a chance discovery by Bedouins in August. The two statuettes bear inscriptions that identify them: the smaller one is that of Išgi-Mari (first read Lamgi-Mari), king of Mari, and the larger one is that of Ebih-Il (first read Entil) whose title is then interpreted as \"steward\". Both of them dedicated their statue to virile Ištar. The temple of Ishtar-Ush, or Ishtar Virile, has more recently been re-evaluated in its topography, stratigraphy and its place in the religious life of the Euphrates city. The space from which the Ebih-Il statue originates has thus been reinterpreted following the analysis of all the documentation. It is no longer considered as a courtyard south of the temple but as a space outside the temple, adjacent to the road leading from the western gate of the city to the royal palace.","imageAlt":"3D Assyrian - EBIH II","url":"https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/scanned/various/assyrian-ebih-ii","isCLDApplicable":false,"isSaleOffApplicable":false,"gaAttributes":{},"primaryImage":{"gridFallbackUrl":"https://media.cgtrader.com/variants/BdQ2bDWmNH4fCJqCfK8nhPn8/a26e47dab5f2d22c43d6c5ce4b4b46ecc30c70918878397cba1a10c1e35d7bfc/EBIH_II.jpg","gridUrl":"https://media.cgtrader.com/variants/BdQ2bDWmNH4fCJqCfK8nhPn8/78add9c2f02fbd73a43ffb3970be38683c5f15eff6ca849dc78c644f4ff9ce1b/EBIH_II.webp","isAdultContent":false},"modelInfo":{"modelUrl":"https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/scanned/various/assyrian-ebih-ii","isCgtVerified":false,"types":{"printReady":false,"animated":false,"pbr":false,"rigged":false,"lowPoly":false}},"metaverseFormatsList":[{"id":7,"name":".dxf","is_native":false},{"id":5,"name":".fbx","is_native":false},{"id":12,"name":".obj","is_native":false},{"id":51,"name":".stl","is_native":false},{"id":2,"name":".3ds","is_native":false},{"id":188,"name":".wrl","is_native":false},{"id":null,"name":null,"is_native":false},{"id":117,"name":".gltf","is_native":false}],"categorySlug":"scanned","subcategorySlug":"various","categoryTitle":"Scanned 3D Models","subcategoryTitle":"Various","schemaImageUrl":"https://img-new.cgtrader.com/items/3145259/c1a2ced315/assyrian-ebih-ii-3d-model-c1a2ced315.webp","saleOffDiscount":0,"eligibleForSubscription":false,"subscriptionSubscribed":false,"subscriptionPotential":false}},{"id":"3137651","type":"listingItem","attributes":{"id":3137651,"title":"Assyrian - The Victory Stele of King Naram-Sin","price":99.0,"description":"The Victory Stele of King Naram-Sin is a fragmentary stele built in honour of the victory of Naram-Sin, king of the Akkadian Empire, over a rebellious people of the Zagros, the Lullubis.\n\n**Historical context**\nDuring the reign of Naram-Sin, the Lullubi people, living in the Zagros, rebelled. After putting down the revolt, the Akkadian king erected this stele in his honour at Sippar. In the 11th century B.C., it was taken away by the Medio-Elamite king Shutruk-Nahhunte and transported to Susa. He had an inscription engraved on it in Elamite, as on all the works he brought back from his expeditions, at the level of the mountain represented on the stele. The stele was found on 6 April 1898 by the archaeologist Jacques de Morgan on the tell of the Acropolis of Susa.\n\n**Description**\nThe victory stele of Naram-Sin is a major milestone in the sculpture of this period. It is the first known stela in bas-relief to be free from the notion of register. Thus, the story is no longer told scene by scene, but in one piece, bringing together in the same representation the arrival of the Akkadian troops, the battle, the defeat of the Lullubis and the triumph of Naram-Sin. Moreover, this stele is the first to put the king on the same level as the god. Thus, Naram-Sin is represented in heroic stature and wears a helmet adorned with horns, a symbol of divinity in the ancient Near East.\n\nThe stele, which is now fragmentary, must originally have been long and rounded at the top. At the top of the stele are stars (seven supposedly when the stele was complete), allegories of the gods watching over Akkad. Depicted in heroic stature overlooking the battle, Naram-Sin is distinguished from the soldiers by his divine headdress, a helmet with a pair of horns. He carries a bow and a spear and is dressed in a short loincloth suitable for battle. The king is clearly a warrior here. He is not only commanding the battle, he is participating in the battle. Naram-Sin is on top of a mountain (the Zagros) on which the battle is taking place. On the left flank, the Akkadians, on the right the Lullubis. The Akkadians are all shown identical, marching with a determined step towards the enemy, while the latter are in full rout. Some of the Lullubi beg the king to spare them, while others flee or fall under the blows of the Akkadians. One of them falls from the mountain, creating a vertical line separating the winners from the losers. Another collapses in front of Naram-Sin after receiving a spear in his throat.\n\nThe scene is clearly violent, characteristic of Akkadian art where defeated people are represented in chains, , if not executed. We also note the presence of decoration (a tree, the mountain) on the stele, which is also unusual.","imageAlt":null,"url":"https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/scanned/various/the-victory-stele-of-king-naram-sin","isCLDApplicable":false,"isSaleOffApplicable":false,"gaAttributes":{},"primaryImage":{"gridFallbackUrl":"https://media.cgtrader.com/variants/Bu2Jzc7HRMfLKqJ6fWWi2ok8/a26e47dab5f2d22c43d6c5ce4b4b46ecc30c70918878397cba1a10c1e35d7bfc/VICTORY_STELE_NARAM_SIN_0002.jpg","gridUrl":"https://media.cgtrader.com/variants/Bu2Jzc7HRMfLKqJ6fWWi2ok8/78add9c2f02fbd73a43ffb3970be38683c5f15eff6ca849dc78c644f4ff9ce1b/VICTORY_STELE_NARAM_SIN_0002.webp","isAdultContent":false},"modelInfo":{"modelUrl":"https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/scanned/various/the-victory-stele-of-king-naram-sin","isCgtVerified":false,"types":{"printReady":false,"animated":false,"pbr":true,"rigged":false,"lowPoly":false}},"metaverseFormatsList":[{"id":2,"name":".3ds","is_native":false},{"id":5,"name":".fbx","is_native":false},{"id":12,"name":".obj","is_native":false},{"id":188,"name":".wrl","is_native":false},{"id":189,"name":".ply","is_native":false},{"id":51,"name":".stl","is_native":false},{"id":null,"name":null,"is_native":false}],"categorySlug":"scanned","subcategorySlug":"various","categoryTitle":"Scanned 3D Models","subcategoryTitle":"Various","schemaImageUrl":"https://img-new.cgtrader.com/items/3137651/1d2efa7cbf/assyrian-the-victory-stele-of-king-naram-sin-3d-model-1d2efa7cbf.webp","saleOffDiscount":0,"eligibleForSubscription":false,"subscriptionSubscribed":false,"subscriptionPotential":false}},{"id":"2060639","type":"listingItem","attributes":{"id":2060639,"title":"ASSYRIAN - MESHA STELE","price":99.0,"description":"**Height 115 cm, Width : 60 cm, Depth : 25cm**\nThe Mesha Stele, also known as the Moabite Stone, is a stele (inscribed stone) set up around 840 BCE by King Mesha of Moab (a kingdom located in modern Jordan). They symbolized divine and royal power, and the calm strength that emanated from them protected the palace and ensured the continuity of the ruler's power.\n\nA complex architectural system\nThis figure is a partial reconstruction of a monumental complex, which we know about from the drawings executed by Eugène Flandin in 1844 during the excavation of the entrance of the throne room of the palace of Sargon II. The outside facade of the throne room - facade N - was composed of a frieze, showing a procession of figures, and passageways guarded by colossal spirits: a pair of winged bulls with human heads and a pair of benevolent genies. The central passageway doubled this arrangement: in addition to the bulls in the passageway, there were four others along the wall, their heads turned towards the visitor. Between each pair was a lion-taming spirit: one of these figures was sent to the Louvre by Paul-Émile Botta.\n\nA colossal figure\nMeasuring over five meters high, the sculpture depicts a figure choking a lion. The spirit or hero overpowering the lion is in a frontal position, which is rare in Assyrian art and used only for creatures playing a magical role. In his right hand he holds a ceremonial weapon with a curved blade, known as a \"harpe,\" which is a royal weapon. He is wearing a short tunic with a large fringed shawl over it, hiding one leg and revealing the other. The eye contact with the visitor has a magical impact. His head is sculpted almost in the round; the eyes, once brightly colored, were meant to mesmerize the visitor. His hair and beard are styled like those of Assyrian dignitaries and the king. The hero is wearing a bracelet with a rosette in the center. Excavations of the tombs of the queens at Nimrud yielded similar bracelets, which were made of gold and inlaid with precious stones to look like petals. The lion is lifting its head and baring its teeth. Its muzzle is stylized with a series of radiating folds, which are also found on metal sculptures.\n\nA symbolic representation of royal power\nThis spirit, often identified with the hero Gilgamesh, who was a legendary figure but also a historical king of Uruk, probably incarnates the omnipotence of kingship: he is effortlessly overpowering a ferocious lion. The contrast between the roaring lion and the hero's imperturbable strength highlights his magical power. The set of ten bulls and two heroes, a royal heraldic emblem, was specially created for the facade of the throne room in the palace of Sargon II. From the 2nd millennium BC, it was the capital of a powerful kingdom called Elam, located in present-day southwestern Iran. Elam was annexed by the Persian Empire, an immense territory stretching from the Danube to the Indus, and from present-day Uzbekistan to Egypt.\n\nAt the beginning of the 5th century BC, Darius I (522-486) was at the head of this Empire. In the city of Susa, he had a vast palace built. The palace, built on a hill, opened with a monumental gate decorated with a large statue of the sovereign. It is mainly composed of royal flats, distributed around three courtyards, and a vast audience hall (apadana).\n\nThis monumental panel of coloured bricks is one of the most remarkable remains of this palace, which has almost entirely disappeared. It could represent some of the 'Immortals', the soldiers who formed the elite guard of the ruler.\n\n \n\nMEN IN ARMS\nThe coloured bricks of the palace decoration were gradually discovered by French archaeologists in various parts of the building. They were then reassembled to reconstitute the characters or animals (lions, winged bulls, sphinxes, griffins) represented on different panels. As the bricks were found scattered, the exact location and appearance of these decorations remain hypothetical.\n\nMore than twenty soldiers have been reconstructed. On this frieze, archers of the same size follow one another, calmly, evoking a parade of individuals in arms. All are depicted in left profile, except for their eyes, which are in front - perhaps an influence from Egyptian art.\n\nThey each carry a bow with duck-head ends and a quiver. In their hands they hold a spear, which rests on the foot of the leg stretched out in front, pointing upwards.\n\nEach soldier wears rings on his ears and a bracelet on both wrists. These jewels are reminiscent of those found in a tomb in Susa, decorated with animal heads.\n\nThe archers are dressed in the long Persian ceremonial dress that appeared during the reign of Darius I. In times of peace, it is worn by the soldiers of the army. In times of peace, it was worn by the king himself and his dignitaries. This garment, gallooned, pleated on the legs and with wide sloping sleeves, is decorated from one soldier to another either with rosettes on a yellow background or with crenellated towers on a cream background. The shoes are soft and closed with thin laces.\nThe exact identification of these figures has given rise to different interpretations.\n\nThe braided headband and the spear on the foot lead some historians to see in this frieze the representation of a troop originating from Elam.\n\nOthers identify these figures with the \"Ten Thousand\", also known as the \"Immortals\", the Persian elite corps. Herodotus spoke of them in these terms: \"If one of the men was missing, struck down by death or illness, a replacement was immediately chosen, and there were never more, and never less than ten thousand. \"This famous guard of the sovereign could wear gold necklaces and sumptuous yellow and red garments decorated with gems. Their lances were finished with a metal ball, gold for a thousand of them, silver for the other nine thousand. In the Susa panels, the white at the base of the spears could represent silver.\n\nThese soldiers, sculpted in relief, can be found on some of the walls of another palace built in Persepolis for Darius I: lined up in a hieratic attitude, they suggest, as here, the power and stability of the Empire.\n\nAs Susiana, the region of Susa, is poor in stone, moulded brick was used for wall decorations as early as the 12th century BC, the time of the kings of Elam.\n\nFor the construction of his Persian palace, Darius I called upon the best craftsmen of the Empire. The foundation charter of the palace (an inscribed tablet found buried in the base) indicates that Babylonians were among them.\n\nUnlike the Mesopotamian technique, Susa's bricks are not made of clay, but of a very siliceous paste. The relief decoration of the brick is moulded and then fired. The colours are then applied in two stages to prevent them from mixing: to delimit each coloured area, thin strips of glass paste are applied to the support to create small partitions, and then the different colours are applied. These are obtained from metallic oxides: copper oxides for the green and pale blue, cobalt oxides for the dark blue, lead antimonate for the yellow. Finally, the brick is fired at high temperature.","imageAlt":"ASSYRIAN - FRIEZE OF ARCHERS STONEWALL 2 3D model","url":"https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/scanned/various/assyrian-frieze-of-archers-2","isCLDApplicable":false,"isSaleOffApplicable":false,"gaAttributes":{},"primaryImage":{"gridFallbackUrl":"https://media.cgtrader.com/variants/Fv4HqXMG4rnEhtfwZQDEYmAi/a26e47dab5f2d22c43d6c5ce4b4b46ecc30c70918878397cba1a10c1e35d7bfc/00_FRESQUE_ARCHERS_DUO.jpg","gridUrl":"https://media.cgtrader.com/variants/Fv4HqXMG4rnEhtfwZQDEYmAi/78add9c2f02fbd73a43ffb3970be38683c5f15eff6ca849dc78c644f4ff9ce1b/00_FRESQUE_ARCHERS_DUO.webp","isAdultContent":false},"modelInfo":{"modelUrl":"https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/scanned/various/assyrian-frieze-of-archers-2","isCgtVerified":false,"types":{"printReady":false,"animated":false,"pbr":false,"rigged":false,"lowPoly":false}},"metaverseFormatsList":[{"id":6,"name":".c4d","is_native":true},{"id":12,"name":".obj","is_native":false},{"id":null,"name":null,"is_native":false},{"id":25,"name":".dae","is_native":false},{"id":7,"name":".dxf","is_native":false},{"id":5,"name":".fbx","is_native":false},{"id":104,"name":".abc","is_native":false},{"id":51,"name":".stl","is_native":false},{"id":2,"name":".3ds","is_native":false},{"id":189,"name":".ply","is_native":false}],"categorySlug":"scanned","subcategorySlug":"various","categoryTitle":"Scanned 3D Models","subcategoryTitle":"Various","schemaImageUrl":"https://img-new.cgtrader.com/items/2113183/16ffd13e40/assyrian-frieze-of-archers-stonewall-2-archers-3d-model-16ffd13e40.webp","saleOffDiscount":0,"eligibleForSubscription":false,"subscriptionSubscribed":false,"subscriptionPotential":false}},{"id":"2976594","type":"listingItem","attributes":{"id":2976594,"title":"ASSYRIAN - TRIBUTAIRE MEDE II","price":99.0,"description":"**H : 39cm W : 31cm L : 4cm**\n\nThe characterization of different peoples by their hairstyle and clothing is constant in Assyrian art and allows them to be identified. Transported by a prince from the neighbouring country of Elam to Iran in the 12th century B.C. the monument was exhibited on the acropolis of Susa among other prestigious Mesopotamian masterpieces.","imageAlt":"3D printable model ASSYRIAN SCULPTURE OF THE STELE OF 3","url":"https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-print-models/art/scans-replicas/assyrian-sculpture-of-the-stele-of-the-code-of-hammurabi","isCLDApplicable":false,"isSaleOffApplicable":false,"gaAttributes":{},"primaryImage":{"gridFallbackUrl":"https://media.cgtrader.com/variants/difobTGYrTtQobHhmtiNu7nr/a26e47dab5f2d22c43d6c5ce4b4b46ecc30c70918878397cba1a10c1e35d7bfc/STILL_.jpg","gridUrl":"https://media.cgtrader.com/variants/difobTGYrTtQobHhmtiNu7nr/78add9c2f02fbd73a43ffb3970be38683c5f15eff6ca849dc78c644f4ff9ce1b/STILL_.webp","isAdultContent":false},"modelInfo":{"modelUrl":"https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-print-models/art/scans-replicas/assyrian-sculpture-of-the-stele-of-the-code-of-hammurabi","isCgtVerified":false,"types":{"printReady":true,"animated":false,"pbr":false,"rigged":false,"lowPoly":false}},"metaverseFormatsList":[{"id":189,"name":".ply","is_native":false},{"id":51,"name":".stl","is_native":false},{"id":12,"name":".obj","is_native":false},{"id":188,"name":".wrl","is_native":false}],"categorySlug":"art","subcategorySlug":"scans-replicas","categoryTitle":"Art \u0026 Design","subcategoryTitle":"Scans \u0026 Replicas","schemaImageUrl":"https://img-new.cgtrader.com/items/2254423/59fcb9e6f5/assyrian-stele-code-of-hammurabi-3d-printing-3d-model-59fcb9e6f5.webp","saleOffDiscount":0,"eligibleForSubscription":false,"subscriptionSubscribed":false,"subscriptionPotential":false}},{"id":"3148437","type":"listingItem","attributes":{"id":3148437,"title":"Assyrian - Blessing Genie 2","price":99.0,"description":"**MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS**\n**DimensionsHeight: 117 cm; Width: 51 cm; Thickness: 23 cm**\nMaterial and techniqueMaterial: gypsum alabaster\nTechnique: bas-relief\n\n**DESCRIPTION**\nName / TitleName: orthostate\nDescription / DecorationDecoration: genie: blessing (human hybrid: wing, raptor: head, dress: short, belt, necklace, spiral bracelet: 2, holding, cedar apple, situla)\n\nCondition of the work: complete; unfinished\nDetails of the object: Orthostate.
