Faithful and accurate Reconstruction of a Roman Ship Liburna B, as from remains and evidence.

In battle all the sails were usually hauled down and kept reefed. This Liburna required only 1 helmsman who sat on the central seat moving the Rudders. The Prow Tower was used by the ship Commander, especially during close-combat, in order to control the movements of the marines during the boarding. This Tower could also be used by archers or some light artillery. Close-Combat marines were usually Infantry Legionaries trained for Naval Warfare: they had the same equipment as infantry, but usually had a blue tunic instead. The cushion of the helmsman can be cloned and used for the oarsmen. In fact usually every oarsman had his own cushion.
