The Arleigh Burke class is a guided missile destroyer that has come to form the backbone of the United States Navy. They are equipped with the Aegis combat system, which integrates the ship's sensors and weapons systems to engage anti-ship missile threats. The armament of Flight IIA Burkes consists of a 90 cell Mk 41 vertical launch system capable of launching Tomahawk land attack missiles, SM-2, SM-3 and Evolved Sea Sparrow Anti-Air Missiles, and ASROC torpedoes. This is complemented by a 5 inch gun, two Phalanx Close in Weapons Systems, and torpedoes launched from a Mk 32 system. They are also equipped with a landing deck and hangar facility for two SH-60 Seahawk LAMPS III helicopters.
