The Taigei-class submarine is a modern class of diesel-electric attack submarines operated by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. It is one of the latest generations of submarines developed by Japan to enhance its maritime defense capabilities.

The first submarine of this class, JS Taigei, was commissioned in 2022. The name “Taigei” means “Big Whale” in Japanese.
