Columbia Mission Boat

Columbia Mission Boat 3D model

Description

Columbia III Mission Boat The model reproduces one of the last versions of this historic small ship operating in British Columbia, the western region of Canada.

The original vessel, 68feet long, was built in 1956 in Vancouver, having been designed in 1955 by Robert Allen, one of the leading marine architect of the province.

Her wooden hull is fully covered, at water level, so as in the model, by a steel plate for protection against floating trunks and ice, not uncommon in those north waters.

The boat and her similar ancestors, seventeen in all, have been built as coastal mission ships for communications, and to bring assistance, social and medical, to people operating in the remote and lonely bays of British Columbia, within the Sunshine Coast and Northern Vancouver, intended to assist farmers in tiny settlements, logging camps, hunters and isolated lumberjacks.

Some of the boats carried a chapel and was equipped with doctor/dentist and a nurse.

The reproduced version, retired from active mission service, is actually used as pleasure boat for sport cruises in the area.

All parts of the model are named in english and partially grouped for easy of use and positioning

The compressed model is less than 17 Mb of which 4.3 for textures. Some of the textures have been taken from the website cgtextures, offering free use of them.
