Habitat: Extinct tree-sized plant from the Carboniferous to the early Permian Period (about 360 to 250 million years ago). It appears to have preferred sandy riverbanks and floodplains. It appeared mainly as part of the sub-story of prehistoric forests.

Range: Fossils have been found virtually the world over suggesting the plant had a global range.

Notes: An extinct, tree-sized plants that lived during the Carboniferous and early Permian periods (about 360 to 250 million years ago) to which the modern horsetails (genus Equisetum) are closely related. Unlike their herbaceous modern counterparts, these plants were medium-sized trees which grew to heights of more than 10 meters. Although it's stem was woody, it was nonetheless a delicate plant that grew in the sub-story of prehistoric forests. Several sub-genera of Calamites existed, this species fell into the category Stylocalamites and were distinct from other Calamites in that their terrestrial parts rarely branched and had only limited foliage. It featured a prominent strobilus missing in other sub-genera of Calamites, but is a feature found in modern horsetails. These plants grew from an underground connected network of rhizomes as well as from seeds.

  3. Unhealthy -- 100,472 polygons -- 7.41m tall. In a relatively poor state with much of its foliage missing or diseased.
  4. Dying -- 90,852 polygons -- 7.33m tall. Plant is just hanging onto life and showing only unhealthy and diseased foliage.
  5. Dead -- 75,156 polygons -- 6.42m tall. Showing only dead foliage. Stems may be broken and missing.
  6. Ancient -- 136,964 polygons -- 8.8m tall. Plant is at it's full growth height.
  7. Young Mature -- 88,088 polygons -- 5.22m tall. Plant is fully mature, but not fully grown.
  8. Young -- 38,754 polygons -- 2.61m tall. Young plant still growing.
  9. Immature -- 16,857 polygons -- 1.03m tall. Plant has not yet reached it's mature aspect. Strobili are generally missing, or in an early development stage.
  10. Seedling -- 13,991 polygons -- 55.85cm tall. Very young plant just forming, just emerging from underground rhyzomes.
  11. Single Plant -- 12,365 polygons -- 4.87m tall. Only one plant has been generated.
  12. Less Plants -- 66,203 polygons -- 7.36m tall. There are fewer plants in this cluster.
  13. More Plants -- 246,328 polygons -- 7.67m tall. There is a larger number of plants in this cluster.
  14. Smaller Cluster -- 119,677 polygons --7.36m tall. The cluster is smaller and the plants more densely packed together.
  15. Larger Cluster -- 119,677 polygons -- 7.36m tall. The cluster is larger and the plants are further spread out.
  16. Simplified -- 49,112 polygons -- 7.36m tall. Same as the Standard model but finer details have been omitted. Much lower poly count. Intended for mid or distant renders.

Re-meshing available upon request, eg adaptive mesh for lower poly count (this is the default setting and is as supplied), uniform mesh for easier editing, strict quads, tris, mixed, poly increase or decrease, etc. No charge to existing customers of the product.

The textures included in this pack are mainly 4k (4096x4096) to cater for detailed renders, this is the default map size and is included in each of the file format download files, no need for seperate downloads. However these may be slow to load or render on some system and may not be necessary in all situations. To allow for this, medium 2k, small 1k, and tiny <1k textures are also available and may be downloaded alongside the various model formats. Different texture sizes can simply be swapped in or out by copying the Maps sub-folder; no need to manipulate the materials in your editor. Please use whichever best suits your system and needs.
