Description
SCAR (Special Operations Forces Combat Assault Rifle) [4] is a family of gas piston short-stroke [5] automatic rifles developed by the Belgian manufacturer FN Herstal (FN) in 2004 [6]. It is built in a modular fashion for the US Special Operations Command (SOCOM) to meet the requirements of the SCAR competition. [7] This family of rifles consists of two main types. SCAR-L, meaning light, is chambered in 5.56×45mm NATO, while SCAR-H, meaning heavy, is chambered in 7.62×51mm NATO.
