DESCRIPTION

This is the Fire Explosion, for use in animations, renders, games, printing... etc.
The zip file contains various file formats: .blend, .fbx, .gltf, .mp4, .mov
To create explosions in games or animations, the most common methods usually involve complex techniques such as particle systems or physics simulations. However, some game engines do not support these features, or they can be too heavy to run in simple games or on low-end hardware. For this reason, I created an explosion animation using the old-school, classical technique with simple polygons and textures.
The ZIP file includes:

  • 180 frames of the animation as separate PNG images with transparent backgrounds.
  • A Blender file with a single object that uses the image sequence (from the folder named ExplosionFrames) to play the animation.
  • MP4 and MOV videos of the explosion, ready to be used in game engines or video editors. These videos were encoded with a PNG codec that preserves transparency information, allowing you to overlay the explosion on any image or video layer.
  • A Blender file containing the explosion animation created with one mesh per frame, each with its own material. The animation uses object scaling to show and hide the meshes, creating the explosion effect.
  • The explosion animation exported in GLTF format (tested in Three.js r176).
  • The explosion animation exported in FBX format (tested in Blender).

The animation runs at 60FPS with 180frames of duration (3 seconds).
Please see the video for more details.

Enable the two sided material view in your game engine to see the flames from both sides.
The flame can produce light by adjusting the intensity of the emission in the material configuration.

Specifications for the Blender with only one mesh:

  • Vertices: 124
  • Polygons: 76
  • Materials: 1
  • Textures: 180 (animation sequence)( 512 x 512 pixels, diffuse + alpha + emission in same PNG image)

Specifications for the GLTF, FBX and Blender animation version:

  • Vertices: 22,320
    • Polygons: 13,680
    • Materials: 180
    • Textures: 180( 512 x 512 pixels, diffuse + alpha + emission in same PNG image)

The .blend file is the original version prepared to render. Use Blender v3.6.23 to open this file.

FBX
This FBX file has successfully passed the CGT Standard technical and visual checks. The verification results are detailed in the section below.
File & scene
Binary FBX
Binary FBX file is more compact and faster to load and process.

No unsupported objects
Unsupported objects:
- Lights
- Cameras
Learn more
Geometry
No N-gons
N-gons are polygons with five or more sides which might cause issues in certain processes like rendering or animation. Learn more
No faceted geometry
Faceted geometry uses flat surfaces without smoothing, which can look unrealistic on curves.
Learn more
Manifold geometry
Manifold geometry ensures all surfaces are properly connected, avoiding issues like edges shared by more than two faces.

Textures & material
PBR textures
PBR textures simulate how light interacts with materials, making the model look realistic under different lighting.
Required PBR textures:
- Base Color
- Roughness
- Metalness
- Normal

No embed textures
Embedded textures are stored inside the model file, increasing its size and sometimes causing compatibility issues.
Learn more
Square textures
Texture aspect ratio is the width-to-height ratio of a texture. Expected texture aspect ratio: 1:1
Learn more
Power of 2 texture sizes
Textures with dimensions in power of two (e.g. 512x512px, 1024x1024px) are used to optimize performance and memory usage.

Assigned materials
Materials are applied to the 3D model to allow visualize a model's surface properties and appearance.
Learn more
UVs & naming
No UV overlaps
UVs overlap when multiple points on the 3D model's surface are mapped to the same point on the UV island causing texture stretching.
Learn more
UV unwrapped model
A UV unwrapped model means its 3D surface is flattened into 2D space, allowing textures to be applied accurately.
