Melt is a beautifully distorted lighting globe that creates a mesmerizing melting hot blown glass effect. Translucent when on and mirror-finish when off, it emits an attractive, mildly hallucinogenic light. The pendant lamp, which is the product of a collaboration with the Swedish design collective FRONT, was crafted through the innovative process of vacuum metallization. This process deposits small amounts of a material (in this case, metal) molecule-by-molecule onto a solid surface (here, blown glass). This results in a “semi-metallized” interior. As a result, this is a light pendant with two personalities: during the day, it’s translucent but has a visible “internal luminosity.” At night, however, “it emits an attractive, mildly hallucinogenic light, akin to recent Hubble Telescope images of the cosmos,” said the company.
