Singapore is a multinational city-state, a world financial center. It is located on an island and borders the southern part of Malaysia. The heart of the colonial city center is the Padang Cricket Ground, established in the 1830s. It is surrounded by stately buildings, including the City Hall with 18 Corinthian columns. Established around 1820, Chinatown houses the Temple of the Sacred Tooth of the Buddha, where one of the teeth of the founder of Buddhism is believed to be kept.
